Fall TV 2016

Fall TV 2016

This space is not just for books.

I’m really into books, especially in the fall, but I love me some TV too. I’ve found some good ones this season, but I’m not particularly crushing on anything in particular.

American Horror Story: Roanoke – So I’m a few episodes in & I’m not hooked, but I’m determined to stick it out. The premise of Roanoke is frightening enough & I LOVE Sarah Paulson. If you have not seen the FX series The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, then please watch it. I loved it so much – especially the Marcia, Marcia, Marcia episode. Sarah Paulson clinched the Emmy with that one.  AHS: Roanoke is moving a little slow for me, but I’m hoping the payoff will be worth it.

This Is Us – This is the one everybody loves. Now, I’m not a huge Mandy Moore fan, but so far, so good. It’s a feel good drama in the style of Parenthood, but there’s a clever twist at the end of each episode. This premise worries me a bit as I’m not sure how the writers can keep up with all the plot twists and/or if I will tire of it quickly. It stars Milo Ventimiglia (Jess from Gilmore Girls), Sterling K. Brown (Emmy winning role of Christopher Darden in The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story) & is on NBC.

The Good Place – I love Kristen Bell. Now, I was late to the Veronica Mars party, but I grabbed a hold of the train & held on for dear life. She’s such a fantastic comedic actress & I can see this show going the distance. It’s kooky, funny & smart. She doesn’t belong in heaven & all hell breaks loose when she arrives. It’s on NBC.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars – Drag queens are just amazing creatures. I admire anyone who is out there, doing what they want to do. This season JUST ended, but if you can catch it on demand; it’s worth it. I won’t spoil your fun by talking about the winner, but for the make-up & fierce outfits it’s worth a look. It’s on Logo. Let me know if you watch it!

Real Housewives of (all of them, I watch them all) – OC is gearing up for the reunion ( I saw it on Heather Dubrow’s Instagram feed) & New Jersey is trudging along (I really like Siggy & Dolores & I don’t know what it up with Jaclyn) & Atlanta is about to return (with Sheree as a main cast member again!) I have high hopes for Atlanta this season & if you’re a Housewives fan you’ve got to give the podcast Bitch Sesh a listen. It’s TOO good & obviously these are ALL on Bravo.

American Housewife – Katy Mixon is just hilarious. I know her from one of my all time favorites, HBO’s Eastbound & Down. Although I didn’t love the pilot episode (focused too much on her weight for my liking) I have hope for this show & I’m still excited about it. It’s on ABC.

The last few years I’ve returned to sitcoms. Blackish, The Goldbergs, Superstore & The Middle are family favorites. Reality shows – Inkmaster is a standby (although I’m ashamed to admit it).

What I’m Bingeing – The Affair & Fargo

Thank you, Jessica for introducing me to Showtime’s The Affair. It stars Dominic West (McNulty from HBO’s The Wire) & Ruth Wilson (who won a Golden Globe for her role in the show). The show is told from 2 points of view & they differ greatly. They are each retelling their story in an interrogation room & that’s all I needed to be hooked. I’m catching up with the first season right now.

I’m also starting the FX series, Fargo. Of course, I’ve seen the movie & I’ve heard how good it is, but I haven’t got around to it – until NOW. I recently read Before the Fall written by Noah Hawley who also writes for the show & I really enjoyed it. I’m a few episodes in & I’m already planning some late nights to get caught up.

What new & old shows are you into?
