The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory Book Review

The lowdown from Goodreads

Publication Date January 30th, 2018

A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to discover if a fake date can go the distance in a fun and flirty debut novel.

Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn’t normally do. But there’s something about Drew Nichols that’s too hard to resist.

On the eve of his ex’s wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend…

After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she’s the mayor’s chief of staff. Too bad they can’t stop thinking about the other…

They’re just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century–or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want…

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory Book Review

A meet-cute while stranded in an elevator. Throw in some champagne cheese, crackers, flirting and loads of chemistry & you’ve got yourself a wonderful romance.
I devoured The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory. I started it on a Tuesday afternoon & finished it before I went to sleep. As soon as I met Alexa & Drew, I HAD to know their story.

Things I Love

Y’all, there are so many food references & I love all of them. Food plays a huge part in the love story of Alexa & Drew. If you’re reading The Wedding Date for the first time, may I suggest some doughnut holes or a burger or taco accompany your read? By the time I finished the book, I was starving! Truth be told, I stopped for a bag of fresh doughnut holes the morning after.
I also love the fact this is a multiracial romance. While this fact comes up in small parts, it wasn’t a central aspect of their romance. What connects them is their intense spark, their willingness to throw caution to the wind & a LOT of frequent flier miles.

Loving Romance

While I’m still new to the romance game, I’m finally finding my footing. There are some I LOVE! Cue Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating & some I didn’t love as much. I’m looking at you One Day in December. I can already tell The Wedding Date will be an all-time favorite of mine.
Jasmine moves the story along quickly. The sex scenes are romantic & thrilling but not too racy. Yes, Alexa & Drew have some communication mishaps, but this doesn’t eat up too much of the story. With romance, I’m finding I have little to no tolerance for characters who keep thing to themselves but expect their partner to change his/her behavior. It’s so frustrating. I’m happy to say this could have easily happened in The Wedding Date, but Jasmine skirts this topic quickly.

THE VERDICT

I am Really Into This book. It’s sexy, cute & fun. Also, something about The Wedding Date feels very real. For the exception of all the flight changes (I mean how much money would that cost!?!), Drew & Alexa are a couple I know. No one needed rescuing, no one sacrificed all. These are two people who fell in love & damn if I didn’t love every minute.
