Sarah’s Summer Poolside Reading List
Sarah’s Summer Poolside Reading List
The other day on Instagram, my friend Tracy from The Pages In Between posed the question, “Do you read more or less in the summer?” I think that’s a really great question.
I read all throughout the year, but as the days get longer, so does my reading list. There’s something about the summer that makes me feel like I can burn through a book (or even two) in one day. Here in Oregon, we go a long time without decent sunlight. So when the sun is out, you best believe that I am soaking it in. For me, there is not much better than chilling poolside with a super juicy suspense novel and a thick piña colada in my hand.
What’s NOT on Sarah’s Summer Poolside Reading List?
Now, my buddy Jessica enjoys the heavier fair in books. She and I have gone round and round about this. Jessica is HARD on books. First, she expects a hell of a lot out of her author. She wants really deep character development. Basically, she wants a detailed expansive story for the ages. Jessica is not about that Summer Poolside Reading Life.
I have other friends (I’m looking at you Kim), who broaden their horizons by reading things that are outside of their comfort zone. I immensely respect this. Kim is usually reading something that I look at and think, hmm I should try something new. I should get out of my comfort zone. I should read something that challenges my mind. But, in my best Greg Serrano voice, I could, but I don’t, but I could if I wanted to.
What IS on Sarah’s Summer Poolside Reading List?
Books that entertain!
I need to escape my life for a few hours, laugh at least once, be intrigued and I’m a happy camper. I don’t need anything that’s too long & I sure as hell don’t need anything that makes me think too hard. No way am I reading something that confuses me. There’s no war, no serious themes, minimal violence & nothing too emotional. I’m not reading something at the pool that makes me cry; I’ve been there done that. There’s no crying in Summer Poolside Reading! Summer Poolside Reading is for relaxing!
THE VERDICT
This year I’m keeping a list of my Summer Poolside Reading favorites. That way whenever you lovely readers need a book to take on vacation, an enjoyable read to pass a flight or a sexy novel to accompany you to the pool, you’re covered!
Don’t feel guilty! Love your Summer Reading! Comment with some of your favorite summer reads too! I don’t want to miss a single one!
Sarah’s Summer Poolside Reading List
Girls’ Night Out by Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke
Publication Date: July 24, 2018
THE VERDICT: These women have some serious drama & the tone of the book is much darker than I was ready for. Get your serious pants on for Girls’ Night Out. Lisa & Liz are two of my favorites. They have a talent for writing REAL women & Girls’ Night Out is no different.
When The Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica
Publication Date: September 4, 2018
THE VERDICT: I am Really Into This book. I seem to always finish Mary’s books really quickly because I cannot put them down. When the Lights Go Out is no different. And that ending, I was sitting there going, damn, she got me again. I loved it. This is a perfect choice for anyone looking for an enjoyable, interesting thriller that pulls the rug out from underneath you.
The Other Woman by Sandie Jones

THE VERDICT: I am Really Into This book! The Other Woman is the first book from Sandie Jones & I need more of her writing in my life. Summer was made for books like The Other Woman. Grab this book, a beach towel & a pina colada & you’re bound to have fun!
