Book Review: The Mother-in-Law by Sally Hepworth

The lowdown from Goodreads

Publication Date April 23rd, 2019

From the moment Lucy met Diana, she was kept at arm’s length. Diana is exquisitely polite, but Lucy knows, even after marrying Oliver, that they’ll never have the closeness she’d been hoping for.

But who could fault Diana? She was a pillar of the community, an advocate for social justice, the matriarch of a loving family. Lucy had wanted so much to please her new mother-in-law.

That was ten years ago. Now, Diana has been found dead, leaving a suicide note. But the autopsy reveals evidence of suffocation. And everyone in the family is hiding something…

From the bestselling author of The Family Next Door comes a new page-turner about that trickiest of relationships.

Book Review: The Mother-in-Law by Sally Hepworth

Family secrets, domestic drama & a dead mother-in-law make up this tense & suspenseful novel from Sally Hepworth.

Domestic Drama Done Right

I’m a big fan of the family drama, layers of secrets & lies coming to the surface. I mean, hello? I’m a Liane Moriarty fangirl and that is what she does best. Luckily, I had LOADS of Liane vibes reading The Mother-in-Law from Sally Hepworth. Honestly, I’m not clenching my jaw in deep suspense. The Mother-in-Law isn’t that type of book. I did; however, quickly turn the pages to find out each new secret.

THE VERDICT

I am Really Into This book. I ate up the family drama with a spoon. Sally really shines as she brings everything together towards the end. The Mother-in-Law is a great read. The story has me thinking about my own family secrets.
