Masterpiece on PBS: Victoria
Masterpiece on PBS: Victoria
Currently airing Sunday on PBS at 9/8c
See the highly anticipated premiere on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 9/8c. In 1837, a diminutive, neglected teenager is crowned Queen Victoria, navigates the scandal, corruption, and political intrigues of the Court, and soon rises to become the most powerful woman in the world. Victoria stars Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Queen Victoria in a highly anticipated series that follows the drama of the candid, spirited monarch who was perhaps the first woman to seem to have it all.
Following Victoria from the time she becomes Queen through her passionate courtship and marriage to Prince Albert, the lavish premiere season of Victoria dramatizes the romance and reign of the girl behind the famous monarch.
In addition to Ms. Coleman, the stellar ensemble includes Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle, Zen, The Pillars of the Earth) as Lord Melbourne, her first prime minister and intimate friend and Tom Hughes (Page Eight, Dancing on the Edge) as her husband Prince Albert.
Ready for Masterpiece on PBS: Victoria
Fresh off The Crown & newly Into To Call A Midwife, it’s safe to say I’m Really Into British history right now. I am stoked about the new Masterpiece on PBS: Victoria. We already know a second season is in the works & I love that because I can get Into the story & know there’s more to come. The series is written by Daisy Goodwin, the author of the well-loved novel, Victoria. The first season of Victoria focuses on the first 3 years of her reign & remember- she ruled for 63 years! I’m so excited about this series!
Season 1 – Masterpiece on PBS: Victoria
Where do I start? First off, Jenna Coleman is a fantastic Victoria! We first meet Victoria as an immature young woman who creates a pregnancy scandal. With guidance from Lord Melbourne, she faces her public & begins her reign. I will say I love relationship between Lord Melbourne Victoria. I think it was only natural that she falls for him.
Oh, I did not like Albert when I first met him. I guess I still can’t get over the idea of marrying your cousin. Slowly, I’ve learned to love him. Victoria is headstrong & determined & Albert is a great support to her. Remember the scene in Episode 8 where she is having the baby? All those men were standing outside her door, just in case she died during childbirth. Victoria tells them to leave & Albert immediately follows suit. Daisy Goodwin does a wonderful job marrying Albert’s tenderness & ambition.
Season 2 – Masterpiece on PBS: Victoria
THE VERDICT
I am Really Into Masterpiece on PBS: Victoria. The costumes, the palace, Victoria’s reign, Albert- I just love it all. I’m stoked for Season 2!
