Really Into This: Christmas 2016
Sarah and I were chatting the other day about everything we have been doing this December (other than writing this blog!), and we decided we must share with all of you! Here are some of the things we have been Really Into this Holiday Season:
Sarah: Before Christmas I have to hear this song from, Love Actually
Jessica: You are right, Sarah. Everyone thinks about the Mariah Carey song, but this one is my favorite. Neither of us have watched it yet this year…we need to get on top of it!
Sarah: I have to die laughing at this scene from, The Family Man
Jessica: This is one movie both of us are Really Into. Surprisingly, this is one of two Nicolas Cage Christmas movies I love. Anyone else really into Trapped In Paradise with him, Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey??
Sarah: And I have to jam out & embarrass myself singing this song anytime I hear it. I mean, George Michael in a fur hood- I want to LIVE in this music video FOREVER.
Jessica: Haha! Of course you’re Really Into George Michael Christmas! Classic.
Sarah: This year I am Really Into a few new things. My Facebook crew saw me give a shout out to the Chestnut Praline Latte. I wait all year for the Gingerbread Latte, it’s really the only drink I love from Starbucks, but this Chestnut Praline Latte was so good that I reactivated my Starbucks app. Have you tried any of their holiday drinks?
Jessica: I have been Really Into Holiday Drinks too! The Spiced Sweet Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks is soooo goood. It’s creamy, spicy Christmas in a cup. I also love Eggnog, so I tried the Eggnog Lattes from both Starbucks and Dutch Bros this year, and I have to say Dutch Bros wins this battle with their Eggnog Chai Latte. You won’t find it on their online menu, but they will know if you ask for it!
Sarah: I’m also Really Into Halloween, so the movie Krampus is on repeat in our house this year. It’s campy, scary in some parts & it’s about the half-goat half-demon that arrives at Christmas to punish poorly behaved children. I’ve recommended this movie to a few folks & they always think I’m kidding, but I seriously love this movie. It’s not an Oscar winner, but it’s a holiday staple in our house.
Jessica: I am Not as Into scary movies as Sarah is, but when she is Really Into something like this, I have to give it a try. I also have a non-traditional holiday favorite: Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Christmas special is one we watch every year. I am Really Into that show and the way Dee, Charlie, Mac, Dennis and Frank do A Very Sunny Christmas does not disappoint.
Sarah: Perhaps the antithesis to Krampus and A Very Sunny Christmas is a Hallmark Christmas movie & all of them are on heavy rotation this year. 2016 has been a bear for me & I’m not in the mood for anything to stress me out. I want the world to be nice. I want to find the meaning of Christmas, or inherit a family Christmas tree farm, reconnect with my small town high school friends over some mulled cider, be a tourist in an idyllic winter wonderland & organize a successful Christmas party while wearing a fabulous peacoat, infinity scarf & riding boots. I’ve watched so many of these movies, that I can recognize the character actors Hallmark tends to employ. My DVR is filled with them & my family has strict instructions to not erase them. I just can’t handle to commercials on the Hallmark channel-eek! My favorites so far are Christmas Cookies, The Bridge, Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade & Family for Christmas with Lacey Chabert. My daughter was Really Into Ice Sculpture Christmas about, you guessed it, an ice sculpture contest & unrequited childhood love. I always made fun of my mom for watching these, so she’s had fun enjoying the 50 or so movies I recorded this season. Be honest, you’ve watched a few yourself, right?
Jessica: I cannot stop watching these, and Sarah and I started recording these before Thanksgiving! This is yet another thing that we are both Really Into, much to the chagrin of my not so patient boyfriend. Mark’s favorite thing to do is guess the entire plot of the movie based on the title. He guesses the same every time, and almost every time he is right. But that is what I love about these shows – sometimes you just need a predictable, heartwarming movie, that you know will leave you with a smile on your face.
Honestly, this post could go on forever because we are Really Into so much Christmas stuff. One thing is for sure, it’s not Christmas without, Elvis Presley & “Blue Christmas”. What is everyone into this holiday season?
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
Sarah & Jessica
