We are Really Into snacking.  We are Really Into trying new snacks (hello Lay’s Do Us A Flavor).  When we go on a camping trip, we basically eat only snacks the whole time.  So when Sarah and I made a trip into town while camping because we needed mustard for our hot dogs, naturally we bought a couple of snacks.  When we saw fancy flavored marshmallows in the checkout line, we knew we had to try them.  The hardest part was picking two flavors of SmashMallows.  Even Sarah and I have limits.

What is a SmashMallow?

SmashMallows are gourmet, flavored marshmallows made in Sonoma, California.   They are made with all natural ingredients and organic sugar and come in a variety of flavors.  They consider themselves a “snackable marshmallow”. We had a choice between Meyer Lemon Poppyseed, Toasted Coconut Pineapple, Strawberries and Cream, Espresso Bean and Mint Chocolate Chip.  It wasn’t until I got home that I learned there is also a Cinnamon Churro and Root Beer Float!  We went with Toasted Coconut Pineapple and Espresso Bean.

Flavor Country

These SmashMallows are strong!  Each SmashMallow is a powerhouse of flavor.  As soon as you open the bag you can smell these things.  What I really love is there are actual flakes of toasted coconut on the Toasted Coconut Pineapple SmashMallows.  They are like marshmallow piña coladas!  Also, when I tried the Espresso Bean SmashMallows, I swear I got a caffeine buzz!  With these strong flavors, I can’t wait to try some of the other SmashMallows.  That Root Beer Float is calling my name…I have some ideas for these things, but while we were camping we really only had once choice – roasting!!  Sarah is very particular about her technique.  These tasted even better when they are warm and gooey!

Branding

I am Really Into the branding of SmashMallows.  Their website is whimsical and fun and has great tips. They have several recipes for the SmashMallows – even a cocktail!  I also love the packaging with each bag having its own depiction of its flavor.  This is a fun product and the creators know it and capitalize on it.

The Verdict

I am Really Into SmashMallows.  From the flavor, the texture, the branding and packaging – everything was on point.  I feel like there are so many fun recipes to try and I cannot wait to find them all (I’m talking to you Root Beer Float).  I cannot wait to pop a couple of Espresso Bean SmashMallows into a cup of hot chocolate this winter.  Pick up a bag and find your favorite flavor!
