We Picked our Lay’s Do Us a Flavor Contest Winner
We here at Really Into This have a thing for snack food – all you have to do is browse our Instagram or check out a dip recipe to find the evidence. That means when the Lay’s Do Us a Flavor contest came around for the fourth time this summer, we were ready to pick our favorite. Every year, Lay’s asks everyone to pitch them their newest and most original chip ideas, and then they narrow it down to three choices that are put in to production. They count on the consumers to buy them and vote for their favorite (oh how I miss you Wasabi Ginger chips!) to pick the winner, who will get a million dollars! There are some prizes for the voters as well. We grabbed all three at the grocery store and picked our Lay’s Do Us A Flavor Contest Winner.
The Flavor Finalists this year: Crispy Taco, Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese & Fried Green Tomato
Crispy Taco
Crispy Taco made the most sense to me as a flavor, but it was my least favorite. A poor man’s Dorito. I really disliked this chip. This flavor does not lie – you can taste every component of a crispy taco, I just don’t think it is a good thing. Mark and I can both taste the iceberg lettuce, which is more upsetting for me than him. Lettuce does not make not make me happy when eating a chip. Definitely not for me.
Kettle Cooked Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese
Alright, now we’re talking! I love this chip, and it certainly helps that it is kettle cooked, which is my favorite. I love bagels, cream cheese, and everything bagels (check out Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel Seasoning and make this dip!), and this chip tasted like all three. They are somehow actually creamy and they have the everything seasoning right on the chip. I could snack on these for a long time!
Wavy Fried Green Tomato
This was the Lay’s Do Us a Flavor Contest winner for me, but it was a tough choice because the Everything Bagel chips are delicious. The fried green tomato chip hits several flavor profiles: it is smoky, sweet and spicy with the perfect amount of tomato flavor that gives it a touch of acid. These are the winning pick for me because of their overall appeal. They are a perfect summer BBQ chip and would be great for tailgating or pairing with a burger. I want to make a BLT and put these chips on there! Also, BLT chips may be my submission to Lay’s next year…….
The contest is on now and ends in early October. Try all three and let us know your pick for Lay’s Do Us a Flavor Contest Winner!
